How To Choose A "Just Right Book" Testing Kit

What Are Leveled Books?

There is a wide range of reading difficulty within each of the early grades (K-3).

More than 10 years ago, educators Irene Fauntas and Gay Sue Pinnell created an alphabetic leveling system and book leveling criteria to more accurately identify the reading levels of children’s books.  

Today, the Fauntas and Pinnell leveling system and leveled booklists are used confidently by educators around the world to provide students with “just right” books as their reading progresses.

How To Use This Booklist

Each time you use the “Just Right Book” Testing Kit to determine your child’s current reading level, use this booklist to select and purchase “just right” books that correspond to your child’s reading level. As he improves, continue using the testing kit to determine his new “just right” reading level and use the Leveled Booklist to find more books that match his level.
